Overwhelm

I'm in the process of recording a new tapping meditation for Insight Timer!
The subject: overwhelm.
Overwhelm can be such a debilitating force leading to inaction and feelings of discouragement. To name a few...
A to-do list that never seems to end and not enough time.
Feeling stuck with a creative project.
Juggling house, work, kids, etc... it just feels too much to handle.
A mountain of work and deadlines.... it seems impossible to get it all done.
1. A crucial approach to addressing overwhelm is to regulate the nervous system.
Let's go back to brain basics for a moment. The amygdala is responsible for sending a distress signal to the hypothalamus, which activates the stress response.
When we are overwhelmed we are essentially stressed. And any modality which has been shown to neutralize the amygdala, such as EFT, can be a beautiful starting point.
2. If you have too much on your plate or feel stuck in an area, addressing the deeper layers at the root of overwhelm is key.
If you regularly experience overwhelm, here are a few things to ponder on:
Notice how you cope with overwhelm.
And as you cope, notice the thoughts that pop in your mind.
What are you resisting when you feel it's just too much?
What part(s) of your body do you feel more when this freeze response is on?
What thoughts come to mind when you experience overwhelm?
What other emotions are present? Frustration? Anger? Discouragement? Blame? Nervousness? Sadness? etc.
I hope this helps and stay tuned for this meditation on Insight Timer!
